If you notice any of the following signs you may have a bad O2 sensor or one that is about to go bad.
Where are the o2 sensors located. Oxygen sensors O2 sensors will always be located in the exhaust system. Their function is to sense how much oxygen remains in the exhaust that is flowing out of the engine and report that information to the vehicles engine control computer. There are different locations in the exhaust system where O2sensors are.

Where is the car oxygen sensor located. Newer vehicles will have more than one sensorone upstream and one downstream of the catalytic converter. The upstream sensor will be on the exhaust pipe closer to the engine while the downstream sensor is situated closer to the muffler.
The idea is to fine-tune the input the engine computer receives by getting two readings. Sensor 1 is the O2 sensor that is located before upstream of the catalytic converter or also called the pre-catalytic converter. Where is Sensor 2.
Sensor 2 is the sensor that is located after downstream the catalytic converter or also called the post-cat. Check engine light codes associated with a bad oxygen sensor. Once you have located the faulty sensor drench it in penetrating oil allowing it to soak for at least 24 hours prior to performing the task. This will help you remove it later by making it significantly looser. Locate the oxygen sensor underneath the hood or vehicle.
Look for a part that looks like a spark plug with a thick black cable coming out of it. The first sensor will always be next to the motor in the engine compartment. It will be on the exhaust pipe leading from the motor toward the back of the vehicle.
An oxygen sensor does not have to fail completely to give you problems. On the contrary even a failing O2 sensor sometimes called a lazy O2 sensor may cause your car to have a few issues. If you notice any of the following signs you may have a bad O2 sensor or one that is about to go bad.

Check for extra oxygen sensors near the catalytic converter. The downstream oxygen sensor is located directly after the catalytic converter. This sensor measures the pollutants making it through the converter and out of the tailpipe.
The data from this sensor is compared to that of the upstream sensor. Your Toyotas oxygen sensor works as a monitor the tip is placed inside the exhaust pipe and detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. If there is too much oxygen its too lean and too little would be too rich it sends a signal to the ECM to adjust the mixture.

The O2 sensor or Oxygen sensor is physically located on the cars exhaust pipe. It is a simple device with a tip sensor that is inserted into the exhaust pipe. It is designed to measure the percentage of oxygen in the exhaust gasses.
